Introduction
Health Insurance Board (HIB) is a social protection program of the Government of Nepal that aims to enable its citizens to access quality health care services without placing a financial burden on them. The households, communities, and government are directly involved in this program. The Health Insurance Program helps prevent people from falling into poverty due to health care costs, including catastrophic expenditures caused by accidents or disease, by combining prepayment and risk pooling with mutual support. The program also advocates for quality health services and works to address barriers in health service utilization while ensuring equity and access for poor and disadvantaged groups as part of achieving Universal Health Coverage.
Out-of-pocket expenditure has historically been the largest source of health financing in Nepal, followed by government expenditure. Various studies and assessments have emphasized the need for interventions to reduce out-of-pocket spending, as it is considered one of the most inequitable ways of financing health services.
This mobile application is developed to support the objectives of the Health Insurance Board and improve access, efficiency, and transparency in delivering health insurance services.
